Who are Street Child Carers?

Street worker and boy

They are the people on the frontline responsible for carrying out street outreach, counselling and healthcare services, education, vocational training, recreational activities, and family tracing and reintegration.  They are Street Child Africa's tireless partners working on the streets, in the drop-in centres and in communities to identify and reach out to the most vulnerable children.

Street child carers are responsible adults committed to helping children in street situations reach their potential. They are counsellors, educators, health workers, advocates.

Why Sponsor a Street Child Carer?

Because for just a few pounds a month you can make a difference to the lives of hundreds of children in Africa.  Supporting a street child carer means investing in all the children that each team member can reach out to.  It means empowering grassroots organisations to tackle the causes - poverty, abuse, illness and disease - forcing children onto the streets.  It means providing children in street situations with a friendly face and a helping hand.

In their own words:

‘What keeps me going all these years, is that some of the children that we have worked with are doing fine in their families, others have completed school and waiting to go for training in colleges, besides we have saved a lot of sick children on the streets some of who were at a point of death, but through our interventions they are fine' (Ndola, Zambia).
