A warm welcome from Anthony

Anthony Morton-King, Executive Director

Hello everybody and welcome to Street Child Africa's website!

Anthony Morton-King, Director

Time flies.... but, incredibly, at the time I write this I have been in the post for nine full months! What a fantastic period to be here - such a range of people and things to see and understand, whether related to our programmes or to the many ways that we have to raise money for them.

The stand-out highlight, though, has to be my visit to Senegal, where I was lucky enough to spend a few days in the company of our friends from Avenir De l’Enfant (ADE).

Together with their inspirational Director, Moussa Sow, and his staff, I visited several projects, including the temporary residential centre, where amongst other things some cracking skills training regularly takes place.

I saw a family-like centre which provides a safe place for girls and young boys. I also witnessed first-hand how a remarkable group of ADE’s people go into the most dangerous parts of the towns and cities at night to look out for children and begin the process of gaining their trust.

Closer to home, we have been busy with new approaches to raise money as we look to counter some of the current economic doom and gloom, and we are thrilled that at an early stage in this drive, The Body Shop Foundation has made a generous two-year commitment to Street Girls Aid, our partner, in Ghana.

Finally, many of you I hope have seen how our website is developing. This is a work-in-progress but it is a great way to keep up-to-date with what we do including our work with girls and education (our themes for 2012), how the programmes are going and how you can become involved. In the meantime, thank you for your support!

Best wishes

Anthony
